Rietta Jemison

Rietta Jemison, 88 of Basom, on August 27, 2017. She was born in Nedrow, NY on February 27, 1929 to the late Floyd and Rena (Thomas) Doctor.

Rietta was a member of the Eel Clan of the Onondaga Nation. She worked as an electronic assembler for G.E. in Liverpool, NY. and was very proud that she had the opportunity to work on the first space rocket in the 1950s. She married the late Merwyn Jemison on August 14, 1965. Rietta loved to travel, her favorite places to visit were Alaska, Puerto Rico, and the Southwest. Family meant the world to her.

Six children survive Rietta; Ronald Jemison of Florida, Stephen (Carol) Jemison of Basom, Phil (Lisa) Jemison of Indian Falls, Vicki (Rick) Yackeyonny of OK, Faye Jemison of Oakfield, and Carol Sears of Akron. Besides her husband of 27 years, she is predeceased by a daughter, Stacey Jemison, three brothers, and one sister, Winifred "Dottie" Johnson. 

Friends and relatives may call on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC, 10 Eckerson Ave., Akron, NY 14001 with a memorial service immediately following at 2:00 p.m.
