Concetta (Connie) Immaculate Philips (Potenza), of Akron passed away peacefully on August 31, 2018. She was born in Buffalo, NY on September 25,1930 to the late Daniel and Columbina (Ferro) Potenza.
Connie was a 1948 graduate of Sacred Heart Academy. She married Dr. Constantine (Stan) Philips on July 10, 1954. They moved their family to Akron in 1957 in order to start Stan's dental practice. Connie was very involved in the community. She was a long time member of the Kiwanis Club, a volunteer for the American Red Cross and the Akron-Newstead Food Pantry. She was also a member of St.Teresa's Women's Guild, as well as a member of The Eighth District Dental Society, and The Buffalo Torch Club. Connie enjoyed traveling, bowling, golfing, and playing bridge in her spare time.
Beloved mother of Sandra Berkman of East Amherst, NY; Deborah Philips of Boston, MA; Mary Beth (Stephen) Champlin of Carmel, IN; and Peter (Sharon) Philips of East Aurora, NY. Cherished grandmother of eleven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and dear sister of Bette (David) Mesches. She is predeceased by her husband of over 60 years, Dr. Constantine Philips.
Friends and relatives may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday September 7, 2019, at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC, 10 Eckerson Ave, Akron, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St.Teresa’s Roman Catholic Church, 5771 Buell St., Akron, NY on Saturday, September 8, 2019, at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to be used for a scholarship fund in Connie and Stan's name.
