John J. Olaf, of Akron passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on September 18, 2018. He was born June 21, 1932 in Depew, New York to the late Walter and Mary (Okal) Olaf.
John served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he earned two Bronze Stars. After the war, he worked for General Motors in Tonawanda until his retirement. He was a member of the American Legion Jurek Post, the VFW and The Swormville Fire Department Drum Corps. John was a gentleman farmer growing crops and raising livestock. Beloved father of Maryann (Pat) Morgan and John Olaf; cherished grandfather of James (Alyssa) Morgan, Amanda (Lee) Wilson, Alex, and Arina Olaf; proud great grandfather of Autumn and Morgan Wilson; dear brother of Gerald Olaf and Richard (Brenda) Olaf; Mary Alice Mac Namara; sister in law Pat Olaf. John is predeceased by his wife, Loretta (Szymanski) Olaf, a brother, Donald and sister, Barbara Killion.
Friends and relatives may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday September 21, at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC, 10 Eckerson Avenue Akron. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Teresa’s Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, September 22, at 12 pm.
