Sebastian Mazza “Sugar”, 90, of Akron passed away peacefully on September 2, 2017. He was born on June 15, 1927 to the late Peter and Josephine (DiSalvo) Mazza.
Sebastian left high school to join the Navy in 1943 and faithfully served his country during WWII. Upon his return in 1945 he graduated from Akron High School. Sugar married Shirley Mietz in 1948. He worked as a Plant Manager for Georgia Pacific and was a member of the American Legion L.L.Tillman Post 900 for many years. Those who knew Sugar knew how devoted he was to Shirley and how much he loved the water. He and Shirley would often take little trips to Olcott Beach and the Wilson Boat House. Myrtle Beach was his favorite place to travel . He especially loved doing yard work and never missed an opportunity to watch his grandsons playing sports.
Beloved husband of the late Shirley (Mietz) Mazza. Two sons; Dale and Daryl Mazza; two grandsons, Joshua and Jacob Mazza; two sisters Jennie Martino and Rose Caporali; and several nieces and nephews survive Sugar. Two sisters, Palma Casseri and Lena Riggio predecease him.
Friends and relatives may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Ross Funeral Home of Akron, LLC, 10 Eckerson Avenue Akron. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Teresa’s Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, at 11 am. (Please assemble at church). Burial to follow at St Teresa’s Cemetery.
